that may have gone into this attack by this suspect. cnn has obtained a receipt of tactical gear that james holmes bought online back on july 2nd. the tactical gear which matches the description of some of the witnesses who described what he was wearing. urban assault dress. triple pistol magazine. m-16 magazine pouch. and a knife, a large knife. all of them colored in black. we do have that receipt. we're trying to get that accessible. it was shipped to his home that the police are now at right now. shows that he's been -- >> full protective gear. as we heard the witnesses say, they couldn't even make out what he looked like. all they could see was how tall he was and his stature. they didn't know what race he was, nothing. he covered key parts of his body. groin area, also his neck area as well. >> right. there's no gas mask on, no headgear on this itemized list, it was for $306. but the fact that it was all ordered and colored in black seems to indicate he was putting together some kind of outfit that would match other things that he might have on his body. >> you're working on more info

the very latest right now starting with cnn's ed lavandera. he's over at the movie theater where all of this unfolded. what is the very latest, ed? >> reporter: wolf, we've just confirmed with a law enforcement source as to where these four guns were purchased. we've been told by this law enforcement source that all four guns were purchased legally within the last six months. two of the guns were purchased at a bass pro shop in the city of denver. one of the guns was purchased at a mountain gander gun store here in the town of aurora. another was purchased at a gander mountain in thornton, colorado, as well. again, law enforcement source saying those guns were purchased legally within the last six months. we're also told by that law enforcement source that they had found a drum magazine that was connected to the ar-15 rifle. this would have given james holmes the ability to shoot about 100 rounds with that magazine. and the source saying obviously that gave him much more capability to fire off many many rounds once inside that theater. and, wolf, what we've learned from talking to wi

so far have been found. aurora police tell cnn that one man is in custody, and that there is no evidence of a second shooter. here is what we can tell you about that suspected shooter right now. the gunman is a 24-year-old white male. he was wearing a bulletproof vest, a mask, covering most of his face, except for his eyes, according to eyewitnesss, and carrying four guns in all. one of which federal officials describe as an assault rifle. the same officials also say the suspect deployed tear gas just before firing into the crowd. the man was later apprehended in a parking lot at the rear of the theater where he did not apparently resist arrest. a motive for this attack still unknown. we're also hearing from witnesses who either saw the shooter or spoke to those who did. >> a man about six feet tall, taller than her, kicked through the door. and he was in she said a riot helmet. she said he had a bulletproof vest on. you know, she said that he was completely covered in all black with goggles. and she said that after that point, when she saw that he was hold

that these are conflicting reports. an official who is familiar with the investigation has told cnn that the alcohol, tobacco and firearms bureau along with federal agents, fbi agents, have joined aurora police now in the search of the holmes' apartment, and after using a bomb sniffing dog, officials determined there were no bombs or explosives on the scene. so, your question would be if there aren't any bombs what has been taking so long there? another federal official has told cnn that in fact that they did take some time to try to get a warrant, a search warrant to go in there to continue their investigation, so there may have been some what of a hold-up over getting a search warrant. federal officials say that no explosives at the scene, but it is important to remind our viewers that federal officials are not in full control of the scene there in aurora, colorado. it is in fact, local authorities who have control of the scene. so, we are waiting to find out what they say, and hopefully in just a little while to give us more information about this status of the explosives investigation. meanwhile, the sam

holmes told police he explosives at his house. cnn reporting no explosives were found. authorities have been searching since they got that piece of information. they believe he acted alone that threat may be over and the focus now on motive. you are looking live at pictures out of denver right now. police chief says holmes was wearing a gas mask and a bulletproof vest and he set off -- this is cell phone video from earlier that you see now -- that he set off some kind of gas in the theater before opening fire the death toll stands at 12, 10 died at the theater that victim who is three months old was treated and released, parents took him as a precaution there's a 6-year-old among the victims. 38 to 50 people wounded that number keeps changing. we continue to hear more from people if -- inside the theater. >>> i thought it was like a firecracker or firework i thought someone was like it is the batman premiere i'm going to get people riled up. it wasn't until the alarm sounded saying there was an emergency, something is going on that's when i figured out it was serious. >> reporter: inves

now. >> cnn is now upgrading the description of the shooter when he walked into the theater, this through twitter, two minutes ago, cnn saying, in addition to the bullet-proof vest and goggles, face covering, he was also wearing a riot helmet when he walked in and opened fire on this. some eyewitness accounts coming to us through twitter this morning. one person in the theater said we were watching at a point where a shootout broke out in the movie about 15 minutes in, and that's why the confusion was there as to the dpushts they heard inside. the pops, the cracks, they all thought it was part of the movie. >> we do know children were in the movie theater, however, we don't have it confirmed that any of them have been victims of this shooting. we have heard some were, however, that is not confirmed. we're not telling you that as information that you should take with you, just something that a lot of people are putting out there. but we're giving you confirmed information as it becomes available to us. >> to that confirmation, a lot of things have been going on this morning.

complex. they did find something at the movie theater. the police chief told cnn the suspect's car was at the theater. we are seeing video of the white sedan. at last 14 are dead. 10 died at the theater, four later at the hospital. the youngest victim to the hospital was 6-years-old, 50 people were wounded. police say the shoot her a rifle, handgun and another weapon, also a gas mask. witnesses say the man did not say a word he released some sort of canister into the theater and started shooting. >> it took a second to realize what was going on. as people were running, i hit the ground. 50 wounded. the fbi is now headed there from denver. we have a statement obtained by cnn's jim spellman from the fbi it says merely we are involved in working jointly with the aurora police department. we have been talking to the aurora police department this morning, frank fania, public information officer has given us a range of details about the shooter. they have a suspect in custody, described as a young adult male. probably around his early 20s. he was apprehended in the rear of the theater. he had his car there. he was taken near the rear of the parking lot. >> mr. fania, we are hearing details that the suspect's car had tennessee license plates. do you know anything about that? mr. nia, are you still there with us? we just lost him for a moment. this is late information we're getting in. that the suspect had tennessee license plates. so we're trying to confirm that. we know that car was in the rear of the parking lot there. i had asked mr. fania earlier if the suspect had resisted. he said he did not believe so. that he wasn't sure if the police surprised him, but he di

officers, but as well as other journalists in the area, one telling cnn that they had heard from 10 to 20 shots and little explosions going on. then a witness also said shortly after what they had heard was people screaming, and as you were noting earlier, they came on the p.a. system and said everyone needed to get out. so, this witness saying 10 to 20 shots that they had heard, that he or she had heard after the movie had begun, or during that process of them moving into the movie theater. so, as they go through and meet and try to get information from all of these witnesses that are in the area and police officers, as they've moved in their units, you can see in the live pictures, that's what we'll see develop in the coming hours as the sun begins to rise not too long from here. so willie, that's the latest we're seeing right now, the information. they're saying, as we heard from the reports, they don't have a lot of information. they're trying to get the most they can as they move forward. their big concern, as you noted, was getting the injured to the hospitals, those area hospitals.
